Axel Akesson

Asset Supervisor

Axel Akesson has over 15 years professional experience in computer graphics with 12 years spent in feature film VFX contributing to over 20 major movies. Axel started at MPC as a Lead Lighting TD in 2013, leading sequences on "Guardians of the Galaxy". He went on to work on other visual effects heavy shows including "Exodus", "The Jungle Book". On "Terminator Genisys" Axel was Asset Supervisor on Young Arnie, spearheading the company's foray into photorealistic digital actors and for "Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" Axel oversaw artists as CG Supervisor, tackling the R&D heavy ocean and water FX. Axel's latest challenge was building the photoreal fully digital recreation of the actress Sean Young as "Rachael" for "Blade Runner 2049", where he served as Asset Supervisor. Axel will be joining us to discuss how replicating Rachael for Blade Runner 2049 was both a huge honour for MPC as well as an exciting technical and creative challenge.

MPC - Replicating Rachael for "Blade Runner 2049"

MPC Assets Supervisor Axel Akesson will give a behind the scenes look at how his team crossed the uncanny valley and created a photoreal human for Blade Runner 2049. Replicating Rachael was both a huge honour for MPC as well as an exciting technical and creative challenge. It took nearly a year to create the final character which many have called the most realistic CG character to date. In this presentation, Axel will show never seen before material including the tests shown to the filmmakers which showed that with the right talent and technology, anything is possible.
