Christine Phelan | Valve

Christine’s talk will deconstruct animation concepts from film and video games and discuss how many of these ideas need to be re-evaluated when working with an audience that is both independent and directly embedded in a scene. As an animator in the entertainment industry for nearly 10 years, Christine has worked for studios such as Nickelodeon, LucasArts, Double Fine Productions, Nintendo, and Valve.

Max Howard | Max Howard Consulting Group

In this illuminating presentation Max Howard will discuss the secrets of pitching - how to put your best foot forward and how to prepare and present to land that all important deal. Max is an experienced film producer who created and ran studios for Disney in London, Paris, Orlando and Los Angeles, working on some of Disney’s most memorable films including Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. Max spoke at Animex in the UK and we are thrilled he is able to share his knowledge with us at Animex South East Asia.

Animating without Dialogue

Will Becher | Aardman

A unique look behind-the-scenes of the Shaun the Sheep Movie with Lead Character Animator Will Becher. With the stopmotion puppets and footage shot during production, Will shows how the Aardman Animations team created a miniature world and brought Shaun and the flock to life, for their big screen adventure. Will has earned himself a well deserved reputation as one of Aardman's top animators working as lead animator on The Pirates, Band of Misfits as well as Shaun the Sheep. Will received a fantastic reception when he talked at this year's Animex in the UK so we just had to invite him over to Kuala Lumpur. Looking forward to meeting Will and Shaun.

Chief Content Officer, Animonsta Studios Anas Abdul Aziz is responsible for leading the creative team in Animonsta Studios in writing stories and developing new IPs which includes the regionally successful BoBoiBoy 3D Animated Series. With the rise of the local content industry, Anas Abdul Aziz shares his experience from creating successful local animations, to the challenges he has faced in monetizing IPs and marketing them in international territories.

Drew Collins is a Senior Lecturer at Teesside University and previously supervised on eight Hollywood blockbuster movies as an Animator and Technical Director. The list of his works in Hollywood include Green Zone, Fast and Furious, Sherlock Holmes, Inception, John Carter and Total Recall. In this talk Drew will draw on his experiences and share with you his tips on how to succeed in the industry. We are delighted to welcome back anatomical consultant Stuart Sumida to share his knowledge with a brand new talk about getting female and children's anatomy correct - especially in action flicks. Feature Animation for Adults: Now is the Time

Going into the 21st century, animation is the most under-used art form, the only art form in which its leading artists are invisible to the public. This is primed to change. There are new avenues for financing, distribution and exhibition. It is not the case that every graduating animation student must get in line outside the Disney employment office. The industry is truly global, wired up, and films can originate anyplace. Ed describes the scene and points to pathways that are open for creative and entrepreneurial animators.

Constructing a Procedural Train Track on Inside Out

Vincent Serritella | Pixar

San Francisco based Effects Technical Director and fine artist Vincent Serritella will present the challenges encountered on Disney/Pixar’s “Inside Out” when constructing and deconstructing a procedurally generated train track inside the mind. Vincent will also discuss his year long web based project, Project 365, the goal of which was to create and give away an original piece of artwork every day for one year to anyone in the world for free.
