Will Becher

Director and Animator

Will Becher is an Oscar and Bafta nominated animator and director at Aardman Animations in Bristol. He began his career in the late nineties when he landed a summer work placement on Chicken Run – building ‘clay wings’ in the model making department. During his degree in Animation in Edinburgh he kept in contact, and on graduation was invited by Nick Park to join the animation team on Curse of the Were Rabbit (becoming one of Aardman’s youngest ever feature film animators). The film went on to win the Academy Award and BAFTA for Best Animation.

Will has since worked on series, commercials and feature films over a 20 year career at the studio. He was lead Character Animator on A Matter of Loaf and Death, The Pirates and A Shaun the Sheep Movie. Will got his first director credit on series 5 of Shaun the Sheep before becoming Animation director on Nick Park’s feature Early Man.

A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon is Will’s feature directorial debut (shared with with fellow director Richard Phelan).

In this talk we will take a look behind-the-scenes of Aardman Animation's latest film by the Academy Award winning Nick Park. Set at the dawn of time, when prehistoric creatures and woolly mammoths roamed the earth, Early Man tells the story of Dug, along with sidekick Hognob as they unite his tribe against a mighty enemy Lord Nooth and his Bronze Age City to save their home. Using rarely seen footage, Animation Director, Will Becher, talks through some of the amazing craft that went into making Aardman's most ambitious feature film to date.
