A selection of work by Alessandro Taini

Alessandro was born and studied illustration and advertising in Genoa Italy. After a short period working as an illustrator in Milan, Alessandro moved to London to work as a concept artist and graphic designer. In 2003 he joined Ninja Theory as Senior Concept Artist for HEAVENLY SWORD he created iconic characters such as Nariko, Kai and King Bohan (played by Andy Serkis) In 2007 Alessandro became Visual Arts Director creating the visual style for ENSLAVED and DEVIL MAY CRY. Alessandro is currently a freelance illustrator working for a range of clients, including Random House and Bloomsbury publishing.

The BAFTA and Apple award winning Monument Valley is a surreal exploration through fantastical architecture and impossible geometry. The player guides the silent princess Ida through mysterious monuments, to uncover hidden paths, unfold optical illusions and outsmart the enigmatic Crow People. Monument Valley was born when Ken Wong, the team’s lead designer, created a piece of artwork, an image of a building in isometric view with a single figure, staring at its strange but completely possible architecture. Drawing inspiration from the impossible architecture of M.C.Escher, the art was designed such that each frame would be worthy of public display. This exhibition presents the work in large format to be appreciated at its best.

Aria for a Cow Pre-Production Artwork

Aria for a Cow is an animated musical short based on a previously unreleased song by the Oscar winning team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken ("Little Shop of Horrors", "Little Mermaid", "Beauty and the Beast", "Aladdin"). The exhibition will take place in Mima art gallery alongside a screening of the animation, and will feature work by Art Director Amos Sussigan, and Background Artist Stephanie Dominguez. Sussigan said "Aria for a Cow was written when animation was still 2D. Because of that, I wanted to keep Aria's art direction free of any extremely realistic or elaborate special effects, and go back to a more 2D-Iook' Based on his art direction, Aria is painterly, colorful, with a cubistic approach.
