Ben Houchen was elected as Tees Valley Mayor in May 2017 and serves almost 700,000 people across all five Tees Valley boroughs – Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees.
As Mayor he works to drive economic growth and job creation in the region. As Mayor Ben chairs both the Tees Valley Combined Authority and Teesworks, formally the South Tees Development Corporation, with powers and finances to kick-start economic development across the 4,500-acre former Redcar steelworks site, the UK’s largest industrial zone.
As Mayor, Ben has backed Middlesbrough’s ambitions to become the UK’s digital powerhouse, with funding for an expansion to the town’s Boho Zone digital and creative cluster. He also works alongside business leaders and representatives in the sector to ensure its growth.
