Speaking at Workshop
Alan is a freelance screenwriter, show developer and script consultant specialising in comedy and animation. He has created original content for major studios on both sides of the channel and the Atlantic, including Aardman, Cosgrove Hall and, Disney, as well as selling several series of his own. Most recently he helped bring Frankenstein's Cat and The Pinky and Perky Show to CBBC as a developer and head writer.
Shows that he scripted have won many awards, including two from the Royal Television Society, a Pulcinella, an Annie, the Canadian equivalent of an Emmy, a British Animation Award and a pair of Baftas.
Well known in the UK industry, Alan is script consultant to Channel Four's Animator In Residence, Mesh and 4Mations schemes. He also a film maker and runs screen writing workshops for the National Film School, The National Media Museum and at many festivals.
Previous to his TV work Alan was a stand-up comic, a lyricist and radio dramatist. He also worked in community drama and his experiences there led him to develop a unique group devising approach to story creation. So far he has run four successful retreats for the writers, producers and broadcasters of new series.
