Hello Alumni
A warm welcome to the latest edition of "the Graduate", your magazine to keep you in touch with the University and your fellow graduates.
I have only been the Alumni Officer since September 1998 and it is amazing how the time has flown by. You would not believe how much there is to do on your behalf! My first task has been to get the magazine ready, so I could actually make contact with you and if you are reading this I must have done that. My second task is to get the Alumni Office organised, so we can face the Millennium with confidence. As you know, the post of Alumni Officer has been vacant for quite a long time, and the e-mail has really built up. I am working my way through it and anyone who has sent a message in will be getting a little digital reply very shortly. We are also struggling valiantly with the World Wide Web and a new on-line e-mail register is under development. This will be available in the next few months via the University's web site at www.tees.ac.uk When I was offered the opportunity to be Alumni Officer, following the University's review called "Challenges and Choices", I was not sure what I was letting myself in for but I am really enjoying it. I am looking forward to the challenge of developing the Association and serving you, the Alumni. May I wish you a happy and successful 1999 !
You may have met Maria before. She has been at the University for more than nineteen years. She was a member of the Language Centre, initially as a part-time member of staff until becoming a full-time Senior Lecturer in German in 1993. Maria is an Austrian and was educated in Vienna and the Tyrol. After several years of language teaching, she moved to England in 1975. She is an accomplished skier, who every year disappears to her beloved Alps. However, we can forgive her for that, as she has become a real Teessider passionately supporting the 'Boro!
