Stuart Sumida Stuart received his Ph.D. from UCLA in 1987, and taught in the Department of Anatomy and the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago from 1988-1992. He has been an anatomical consultant to special effect artists and animators on over 50 feature length films for such groups as DreamWorks and Pacific Data Images, Walt Disney Feature Animation, Warner Brothers, StarZ, MPC, Imagi, Rhythm and Hues, SONY Pictures ImageWorks, PIXAR, and Walt Disney Imagineering, as well as Blizzard Entertainment and Schell Games.

His work in the animation and special effects industries began with Beauty and the Beast and Lion King, and has since included Mulan, George of the Jungle, the live action versions of 101 and 102 Dalmatians, Tarzan, Stuart Little, Hollowman, Dinosaur, Cats and Dogs, Harry Potter, Lilo and Stitch, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, Scooby Doo I and II, Stuart Little II, Reign of Fire, Brother Bear, Chronicles of Riddick, Chronicles of Narnia – The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Kung Fu Panda, Shrek II, Surf’s Up, Bolt, Ratatouille, Rio, Tangled, and the critically acclaimed How to Train Your Dragon. He is currently involved in ongoing projects with DreamWorks Feature Animation and MPC, and is acting as a consultant to Ang Lee on development for the film version of Life of Pi and delivered animal anatomy lectures for PIXAR’s upcoming Brave. In 2011 he was named outstanding professor the state of California by the Carnegie Foundation of Washington D.C.
