A selection of animated feature films screened especially for a family audience at Cineworld in Middlesbrough. Doors open from 9.30am and before the films are screened there will be fun in the foyer with famous characters from some of the best known science fiction movies ever made! So arrive early and remember that all mams and dads must be accompanied by at least one child. Free to invited audience only.

British Animation Awards Public Choice - programme 1

6.00pm, Cineworld, Middlesbrough
The British Animation Awards invites you, the audience, to vote for winners in three categories, by viewing then using voting-forms supplied at the screenings. Each programme contains a mix of short films, animated commercials and music videos, drawn from entries to BAA 2012, including several international festival award winners. So come along to see the best of British animation and play a part in deciding who wins this year's Public Choice award.

Animex Documentary - Industrial Light & Magic: Creating the Impossible

Since its founding 35 years ago, Industrial Light & Magic has been the movie industry's undisputed leader in groundbreaking visual effects, thrilling audiences and making hits into blockbusters. Leslie Iwerks' documentary takes audiences behind the scenes at ILM with in depth interviews with some of the company's top talent and showcases never before seen footage highlighting many of their pioneering milestones. From creating the first ever computer generated character in a feature film to the latest advancements in visual effects for film franchises like Transformers and Iron Man , ILM has created some of the most memorable movie moments in recent history.

Animex Feature: TATSUMI (15)

TATSUMI celebrates the life and work of Japanese comic artist Yoshihiro Tatsumi. In post-war occupied Japan, young Tatsumi's passion for comics eventually becomes a means of supporting his poor family. Already published as a teenager, talented Tatsumi finds even greater inspiration after meeting his idol, famous Disneyesque animator Osamu Tezuka. Despite his steady success, Tatsumi begins to question why Japanese comics should cater to children with cute and whimsical tales and drawings. In 1957, Tatsumi coins the term gekiga (dramatic pictures) and redefines the manga landscape by encouraging an alternative genre for adults. Realistic and disquieting, Tatsumi's work begins to grapple with the darker aspects of life...
