Oscar-nominated Japanese film comes to Screen
28 January 09
The short film - La Maison en Petits Cubes - has received a nomination for an academy award in the short animation category. This lovely piece from Japanese director Kunio Kato is no stranger to awards as it was the winner of the crystal at Annecy 2008 and it is clear to see why.
The film is a story of an old man living in a house of cubes which he is ever extending upwards to avoid the rising water level that surrounds his dwelling. Due to necessity he must dive deep down through the building and the many years of his family memories in this touching and beautiful 2D short.
La Maison en Petits Cubes joins a great line up of fabulous films screening at Animex this year, including Bolt and Presto! – both of which are in the list of nominations competing for this year’s animation Oscars.
We are screening the film as part of International Shorts on Wednesday 4 February in OL7 at 6.00pm – join us.
