In 1989, Tom Martinek moved to California and began working as a camera assistant and part-time model maker for Apogee Productions after working for several years as the head of the optical department for a film lab on the East Coast. Martinek then moved on to the Los Angeles office of Pacific Data Images where he became the head of the film scanning department. In 1995 he accepted a Technical Director position at Industrial Light & Magic on Congo.
Tom’s love of visual effects began at a young age. From early experiments with stop motion and various other film effects to teaching himself motion control photography and computer graphics, he has spent most of his lifetime working in this area if the film making process.
