Game design guru Ernest Adams explains some of the major principles of game design and gives you the opportunity to work on designs under his tuition. Choose your design role and compete in teams to see who can create the best game.

9.30am – 4.30pm Chris Crawford - Interactive Storytelling
Game designer Chris Crawford will be teaching participants specific techniques of interactive storytelling. Make the most of this excellent opportunity to discuss the subject with one of its pioneers.

9.30am – 4.30pm Pete Draper - CG VFX with 3ds max
Using 3ds max 7's standard toolkit, we will produce some of the fun stuff that us CG artists love to do – smashing object A into object B, generating particle system C, explosion D, debris E, smoke F...

9.30am – 4.30pm Ed Harriss - Softimage XSI Tips and Tricks
This class will cover dozens of hidden (and not so hidden) functions in Softimage XSI such as Easter eggs, workarounds, and procedures that are not self-evident. There will be tips from just about every aspect of XSI from modeling to rendering to lighting to interface. The sorts of tools uncovered in this class will make your usage of XSI more efficient as well as more enjoyable. It will streamline and improve your workflow helping you become a better all around XSI user.

9.30am – 4.30pm Ed Hooks - Acting for Animators
This is an acting workshop designed especially for the needs of animators. It will focus on the connections between thinking, emotion and physical action, which lead to stronger performance animation. Included in the workshop is a lecture/discussion on essential primary acting theory, analysis and deconstruction of clips from various live action and animated films, and simple improvisational exercises designed to illustrate some acting principles.
One session (Full Day) | 30 places
9.30am – 4.30pm Steve Roberts - Lip-Sync using Maya and a pencil!
Use traditional drawn animation techniques to “phrase out” a scene, line test the drawings you’ve produced and use the information gained to animate a piece of lip-synch in 3D! There will be no modelling, lighting, texturing or rendering during this workshop, just animation!
One session (Full Day) | 10 places
9.30am – 4.30pm Professor Stuart Sumida - Human Anatomy & Locomotion for Animators
Basic to advanced approaches to studying, understanding, and modeling human anatomy and locomotion will be presented. This workshop focuses particularly on musculoskeletal and joint anatomy as it impacts designers, animators, modelers, and riggers. Stuart Sumida is a professor of Biology at the California State University in San Bernardino. He has served as an anatomical and locomotor consultant on over thirty feature length films in animation and special effects. Those in which the approach to human anatomical structure described in this workshop have been particularly important include Tarzan, Stuart Little I & II, Shrek II, and Around the world in 80 Days.
