Emily and the Baba Yaga

Clive Tonge and Siobhan Fenton

Once upon a time a little girl called Emily is sent by her spellbound dad to be eaten by Baba Yaga. But Emily isn’t like other little girls; when the chain saw becomes involved Baba Yaga discovers she’s bitten off more than her metal teeth can chew! Emily and the Baba Yaga is a nine minute 3D computer animated short film that provides a modern re-telling of a traditional Russian fairytale. This version follows the traditional fairy tale of innocence triumphing over evil and virtue being rewarded. However, our heroine’s innocence is of a peculiarly modern, sassy nature. With the help of a chain saw, some mangy pets and a man-trap, Emily’s showdown with the evil Baba Yaga could well elicit greater sympathy for the witch than the ‘innocent’ Emily.
