Last year, fresh from my first experience of working with Animex, I wrote about how remarkable the festival is. I already knew that new developments were planned for this year’s festival, and I privately wondered whether another leap in scale and ambition for 2004 was possible. I wondered whether we could keep the festival’s values intact. And I wondered where we’d find the money!
My fears were unfounded. Despite another great increase in size, this festival stays true to the unique dual focus that allows the cutting edge of world animation to jostle comfortably with community based projects. And in a festival world where commerce often drives everything, Animex continues to celebrate genuine innovation and pure creativity above all.
And most gratifyingly, we’ve found the money. Our partners have been more than generous. The involvement of old friends Northern Film and Media, Onyx Internet, UGC Cinemas, Gisborough Hall, Middlesbrough Council and ClickHere means we are generating something that people truly value. New partners United International Pictures and Codeworks mean the word is spreading: Animex is great news. And we haven’t even mentioned regional development agency One NorthEast’s involvement. It’s under wraps until the festival itself. But it is substantial, massively important and it will change the face of what we are doing forever. Wait for news at Animex Talk!
Last year I wrote that the support we’ve received is proof that with hard work there’s little that can’t be achieved by determined people who share a great idea and a common vision. And it has been incredibly gratifying that individuals, businesses and organisations of all sorts see things in the same way. I stand by these words. So, it’s with real pleasure that everyone at Animex gratefully acknowledges the generous support received from its sponsors and partners.
Together we are partners in creativity.
