Animex Talk! 2003

Animex Talk!, the main event, is a two-day conference from Thursday 30th - Friday 31st January with a strong line up of views to excite, intrigue and even shock!

Thursday 30th January
2D Animation Day
9.15am Welcome and Opening Address

9.45am 3D from TV to the Movies
Dave Mousley, Managing Director, and Chris Lunt, Development Manager of Manchester based production house Red Vision, show us their recent work on TV shows like Son of God and Aliens as well as intoducing us to their new projects as co-production partners in feature films.
10.30am Bosom Pals
GINGER GIBBONS, Animation Director at Grandslamm Films. Bringing Beryl Cook's artwork to life in the new animated sitcom Bosom Pals.
11.30am 2D Feature Animation
TERRY THOREN, CEO of Klasky Csupo, takes us through the company's journey from being a leading light in TV animation to a full-blown producer of feature animation.

Animex is proud to launch its first Student Animation Awards for 2004 with a glimpse of the successful work from our previous in-house awards as well as contributions from international student film-makers and our very own DigitalCity Fellowship award winners.

Wanted - Internet Animation - Dead or Alive?

ANDY WYATT from Fictitious Egg, the web-based animation creator of Johnny Casanova takes on the debate of the future of internet animation
4.00pm Will the real Bart Simpson please stand up?
A must see, a must hear!! The legendary NANCY CARTWRIGHT takes us on an aural journey through her career as some of the most memorable animated characters in cartoon history.

7.00 pm Animex After Hours
An evening with a difference. Join us for drinks at the UGC cinema in the centre of town. Animation director BARRY PURVES follows in the footsteps of Bob Godfrey and Paul Dreissen as the next guest to be interviewed at the popular After Hours session at Animex Talk! Paul Wells, Professor of Media & Cultural Studies at the University of Teesside, will go head to head with Barry at what is sure to be an exciting and interesting prelude to the Animex Festival Party.

Party party time! Get jiggy with our very own band, Elba, and our specially invited DJ, at the town's infamous Purple Onion.

3D Computer Animation Day

DAVE THROSSELL, Head of 3D at The Mill, highlights some of the recent work of the hugely successful Soho-based animation and post-production house.

A look at the cut and thrust world of commercial production utilising the technology of 3D computer animation. JOEL FRIESCH, Visual Effects Supervisor, Tippett Studios
11.30am 3D in the Movies
Prepare to be spellbound as PETER MUYZERS, TD Supervisor at The Moving Picture Company shows us how the digital effects and animation in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets were created.

See the work of the Canadian-based production house, famous for Angela Anaconda and effects work on films like Blade 2, The Nutty Professor and X-Men. BOB MUNROE, President and VFX Supervisor.
4.00pm Animating Tolkien's World
JASON SCHLEIFER, of WETA's Academy Award-winning effects specialists team, talks about the processes involved in the epic VFX in The Two Towers, including how the team brought the incredible Gollum to life.
